Egyptian AI Healthtech Star Rology Scores Big Funding to Battle Africa’s Radiology Crisis

In a major boost for African healthcare, Egyptian startup Rology has closed a growth funding round backed by heavyweight global players: Philips Foundation, Johnson & Johnson Impact Ventures, Sanofi Global Health Unit’s Impact Fund, and MIT Solve Innovation Future.

The AI-powered teleradiology platform tackles the continent’s acute radiologist shortage where countries like Nigeria have just one specialist per 2 million people by connecting hospitals to remote experts and supercharging diagnostics with cutting-edge AI.

Founded in 2017, Rology’s FDA-cleared tech boasts 99.89% clinical accuracy, slashes reporting costs by up to 25%, and delivers emergency reports in as little as 30 minutes. It already serves over 300 hospitals in 13 countries, powered by a network of 200+ radiologists and eight homegrown AI tools for early detection and workflow optimization.

The fresh capital will fuel expansion across the Middle East and Africa, deepen its stronghold in Saudi Arabia and Kenya, and bridge diagnostic gaps in underserved regions.

“This investment signals massive confidence in AI’s power to democratize quality healthcare,” said CEO Amr Abodraiaa. With over 1.3 million reports delivered and 1.2 million lives impacted, Rology is proving tech can save lives where specialists are scarce.

As Africa’s AI healthtech scene heats up, Rology’s big-name backing underscores a shift: the continent isn’t just adopting AI it’s leading in practical, life-saving innovation.
